My passion for cycling was reignited when I joined the crowds to cheer on the athletes at the 2012 Olympics cycling event as they whizzed through Surrey.

I enjoyed playing on my bike as a child (didn’t we all?) but I found myself racing to the picture-postcard local bike shop and leaving with a Raneleigh bicycle a few weeks after the Olympics had finished.

And I have never looked back.
Words cannot describe the unbridled joy of cycling. It promotes a genuine comradery, turning strangers into friends within moments.
Whether it’s for a quick dash through the park or a longer leisurely ride, there is always something special to see by bike.

Happily, Surrey carried on the Olympic legacy with its Ride-London events (naturally I was there in the front row, cheering on my cycling buddies!)
So, I thought I would share some of my favourite cycling spots:

Box Hill
Box Hill shot to international fame in the 2012 Olympics as it staged the cycling event. Since then, eager cyclists have taken to the Surrey Hills to enjoy the fresh air and beautifu views.

Richmond Park
The best location for family cycling as it accommodates all abilities. It offers an off-road path, known as the Tamsin Trail.

Children can ride happily alongside their parents under a canopy of trees for a ten-minute stretch, or enjoy an hour long ride. It is absolutely glorious – surely the best place to cycle in the South East.
I have very happy memories of cycling through Richmond Park preparing for my cycling proficiency test!
Epsom Downs

Mercifully there is a viewpoint over London where walkers, runners and cyclists can gather to admire the breathtaking vista of the London skyline. Epsom Downs has an entirely unique atmosphere, fresh and exhilarating (just be careful not to visit during the Derby days.)
Oxford and Cambridge

These historic cities need no introduction for their cycling significance.

Oxford and Cambridge are beautiful options. Immerse yourself in inspiring architecture, join the students and sight-see the only way we know how: by bike.
